The BMO Vancouver Marathon returned to Vancouver on May 7, 2017. Sponsored by the Vancouver International Marathon Society, there are usually over 100,000 people who take part in the various races – marathon, half marathon, 4 person relay, 8 km race, kid’s run and 2.5 km walk. All participants purchased tickets to enter to secure spots on the start line.
According to the event Facebook post, “Excitement is especially high as we’re coming off a sold-out 2016 year that saw the most registrants ever in the event’s rich 45 year history, with runners from more than 50 countries!” It is always a major race and a special event in Vancouver not to be missed. The registration included a metal, a t-shirt, and a complementary beer. Over 16,000 runners took part, about the same number as 2016. Daniel Kipkoech was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 2:19:09 and Gladys Tarus was the first female runner with a time of 2:39:38. Olympian Evan Dunfee walked the course with an unofficial time of 3:10:35.
