Kokomo Detox

Kokomo DetoxHere’s one that we often use called Kokomo Detox. I try to make it once a week, and I’m able to use kale that is so good for you. It is a bright green color – very healthy and delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup pineapple (or pineapple juice)
  • 1 cup Cocos / Cocos Pure coconut water (it is 100% pure – not from concentrate)
  • 2 cups kale

Directions:

  1. Just blend and enjoy 🙂

Iced Coconut Coffee

Iced Coconut CoffeeHere’s another favorite of ours: cold brew iced coffee made with coconut water. By brewing the coffee cold, it loses the bitterness and acidity and tastes just wonderful over ice.

Here’s how to make it:

    1. Put coarse ground coffee beans in a French press or glass bowl.
    2. Add cold Cocos / Cocos Pure coconut water (it is 100% pure – not from concentrate)
    3. Refrigerate for 12 hours
    4. Strain out the beans or push down the French press plunger.
    5. It will already be sweet from the coconut water, but adding a small drop of cream is heavenly.

This website has great ideas for weight loss smoothies as well: http://www.superskinnyme.com/how-to-make-a-weight-loss-smoothie.html It really is effective to drink smoothies that are high in protein and vitamins when you are on a diet.

Cocos / Cocos-Pure Weight Loss Smoothie

Cocos / Cocos-Pure Weight Loss SmoothieThis is one of our favorites. It is so versatile because you can mix and match whatever you have in your fridge at the time.

Here’s how to make one:

      1. Use thickeners such as chia seeds and frozen fruit
      2. Use Cocos / Cocos-Pure as a low fat base. Skip the juices as they are high in calories.
      3. Add a good quality protein powder. One scoop is enough.
      4. Then add one tablespoon of high quality fats such as avocados, nut butters or flax seeds
      5. Go easy on the sweeteners. Use Stevia or other natural sweeteners. Flavor with green tea, ginger or cinnamon instead.
      6. I like to add some unsweetened cocoa powder as well. What could be better than a chocolate drink without the calories?

Coconut Water Smoothies

smoothie-recipes-using-coconut-water_500x333pxCoconut water is a rich liquid full of vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese and zinc. It is also low on sugar, making it a great alternative to the usual soft drinks. In addition, it mixes well with other ingredients to form great smoothies. Coconut water smoothies are the best!

Remember, our Cocos-Pure pure coconut water is without added sugar, preservatives, chemicals or additives.

Cocos-Pure is a great ingredient for smoothies as it is a versatile mixer. Here’s a great resource with pictures. It includes over 50 different coconut water smoothies including high protein smoothies, tropical smoothies, detox smoothies, anti-inflammatory pain relief smoothie and finally a section called “smoothies for everything” such a weight loss, belly buster, muscle building and the energizer.

Smoothies are easiest to make with a blender. Just place or pour the ingredients in and turn on the machine. It’s so fast and nutritious – great for people in a hurry. It’s also a wonderful way to use greens or other ingredients you might not like to eat raw or plain. I myself don’t care much for kale, but mixed into smoothies the taste of kale blends well with pineapple juice, fruit and of course coconut water.

Want more recipes? According to HelloGlow.com, “We’ve talked about the best vitamins for beautiful skin before, but here’s a quick refresher in case you missed it. As we age our skin loses its elasticity, it can start to look dull, those darn age spots might start popping up. Number one important thing to do is stay hydrated. Here are some awesome beauty smoothie ingredients to keep your skin happy and glowing……. This smoothie uses a coconut water base that is not only rehydrating, but a good source of magnesium and potassium, as well as smaller amounts of Vitamins C and B. It’s an excellent way to replenish electrolytes.” The recipe calls for frozen mango and strawberries with fresh carrots and coconut water. I have found that frozen strawberries and mango need to be chopped first before adding to a smoothie. Otherwise they won’t blend and add that thickening quality.

Whatever you like to add, just experiment and discover some awesome combinations on your own. Who knows. You may grow to like coffee in smoothies or how about a chocolate coconut smoothie? The important aspect is to start with fresh, organic ingredients and then build from there. That includes the coconut water produced by Cocos Pure. It’s free of GMOs, food additives and harsh preservatives. You’ll like the taste plain or mixed into one the thousands of smoothie recipes. Try it – you’ll like it.

Coconut Water Benefits You Might Not Know

CoCos-Pure_464x467pxYou may know that coconut water from a young coconut with a green husk is full of vitamins and minerals. Besides it tastes great. Not every food or drink that is good for you tastes as good as coconut water. In a previous article I spelled out the coconut water benefits. However, according to Allison Martin writing for Lifehack , there are other benefits you might not know about, and I suspect you’ll never find them in a medical journal or even a newspaper. Here are some of them.

Coconut Water Benefits You Might Not Know

  1. Weight Loss Aid – Coconut water is low in calories but it suppresses your appetite with the full nature of the liquid.
  2. Skin Toner – Coconut water is a perfect natural remedy for skin blemishes and other skin problems. Why buy expensive toners and lotions when you can use something natural?
  3. The Ultimate Hangover Remedy – Next time you overdo it and drink more than your belly can handle, consume coconut water to settle your stomach. It will also replace those essential electrolytes that exit the body if you experience bouts of frequent urination and vomiting.”
  4. Digestive Aid – I have often turned to coconut water after eating too much spicy food or food from questionable sources. It’s been a lifesaver not to end up in bed for a day.
  5. Hydration Boost – During vigorous exercise the body loses vitamin-rich fluids and mineral content. Coconut water is a good replacement and contains twice the amount of potassium and certainly one-fifth of the sugar that most sports drink contains.
  6. Reduction of Blood Pressure – Coconut water is rich in 5 electrolytes present in the body which help reduce blood pressure problems. “These include: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium. Because of its unique composition, coconut water can be enjoyed by individuals with varying medical conditions.”
  7. Emergency Infusion for Blood Loss – Because coconut water is compatible to human blood, it can be use in emergency situations to hydrate the body until blood transfusions are available.

Thus obtaining pure coconut water such as the products available through CocosPure, can be a healthy alternative, a remedy for illness and even an emergency blood transfusion.

Create Glowing Skin and Hair with Coconut Water

There are so many benefits from coconut water for your health. It’s chock full of vitamins and minerals plus electrolytes like sodium and potassium. It’s a great diet food as well with only 40 calories per serving with low fat and cholesterol content.

However, the benefits don’t stop there. It’s great for you skin and hair as well. According to Namrata Kothari writing for the online publication, Green Tribe, there are seven benefits for you skin and hair.

Anti-aging – Everyone can benefit by drinking and applying coconut water topically to the skin. “Coconut water contains anti-microbial powerhouse called lauric acid that helps protect against skin infections. It also contains protein called cytokines that is responsible for encouraging cell growth and cell activation.”

Fights acne – Applying coconut water topically helps heal the skin. “Coconut water has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties that reduces the risk of acne causing microbial infection and helps in getting a clear and flawless skin.”

Natural cleanser and toner – Coconut water is the most gentle and natural cleanser by hydrating without oil. It regulates the pH balance which is often a problem when blemishes are present.

Protects against sunburn – Apply coconut water after too much sun, let it soak in for 30 minutes and feel the difference. The anti-oxidant and vitamin C properties combat that burning destruction.

Tames frizzy hair – Oil is a bit heavy to apply to the hair but coconut water is perfect and effective for this purpose.

Reduces hair loss – Just massage in coconut water and let the Vitamin K and iron go to work to strengthen hair. “Similarly Iron carries the oxygen to the roots making them stronger and reducing hair fall. Just massage your hair with coconut water and leave it in for stronger hair.”

Treats dandruff and dry scalp – The water hydrates the scalp and soaks into the scalp to treat these common problems without special chemicals or harsh shampoos.

While coconut water is considered safe for everyone and has no recorded side effects, it is better to check with a health practitioner for anyone who is allergic to tree nuts or has high blood pressure. Want one of the best sources of pure coconut water?

More Coconut Water Benefits

CocosPure Coconut WaterHave you noticed the increase in coconut water products – not just in the health food stores but in the big grocery store chains too? Why the growing popularity? There must be lots of coconut water benefits.

More coconut water benefits

Coconut water is the liquid from a young coconut. Eventually the liquid forms into the coconut meat. If you have ever had a drink served inside a fresh coconut you would find the fresh, slightly sweet juice and perhaps some soft coconut meat (sort of like pudding) that you can spoon out. To find out how much liquid is inside, simply shake the young green coconut and you can hear the amount that is inside.

One time in Mexico we were given fresh coconuts with the tops cut off. The bartender had made a drink with the coconut water, pineapple juice and tequila. I think he called it, “coco loco”. “Loco” in Spanish means “crazy”. If you drink too many you might end up confused or drunk – not sure about crazy.

Anyway, back to the coconut water benefits. Not all coconut water products are the same. I’m sorry to say some are full of sugar, other juices, chemical preservatives and flavor enhancers. It’s a good idea to read the labels before you buy. Better yet, just purchase CocosPure coconut water.

Here are the benefits of CocosPure coconut water:

  1. Only single-origin coconut water is used.
  2. All products are 100% all natural with no sugar, artificial ingredients, colors or preservatives.
  3. They are all gluten-free, cholesterol-free, and fat-free.
  4. One can of CocosPure coconut water contains twice the amount of potassium as a fresh banana.
  5. Coconut water is also a source of calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, proteins and vitamins B & C.
  6. CocosPure has developed a process using low-heat pasteurization designed to preserve the vitamin and mineral content.

Is Coconut Water Good for Your Health?

CoCos-Pure_464x467pxCans of coconut water are popping up in supermarkets worldwide. This was a product that we saw only in health food stores that has now gone mainstream. Why the changing popularity? Why this change?

Coconut water is the fluid inside a young coconut that eventually hardens into the coconut meat eventually. However, the coconut water is supposedly higher in vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese and zinc than the more mature coconut meat. It’s also low in sugar and calories, making it a great alternative to the usual soft drinks.

There are many other benefits to coconut water. According to Dr. Josh Axe, “In certain emergency situations, coconut water has been used for IV hydration due to its high electrolyte content and the fact that it is sterile if used directly from the inside of the coconut. People all over the world enjoy coconut water for its multiple benefits and sweet taste.” (https://draxe.com/is-coconut-water-good-for-you/)

Coconut water can also provide hydration in the case of diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating. I remember well one time in another country when I was suffering from some intestinal bug from the food I had eaten. Drinking coconut water right from the coconut was what stopped my problem and saved me a trip to the doctor in a foreign country.

Now we can enjoy the same benefits from canned coconut water. No need to chop off the top of a young coconut! Are all commercial versions of coconut water the same? Given the natural coconut is very good for everyone, what about the canned versions?

The answer is that many of the canned versions are far from “pure”, so please read the labels. Here are a few factors to check for:

  • Use of pasteurization which will reduce the effect of the vitamins and minerals.
  • Inclusion of sugar, added vitamins, even preservatives or other chemicals and additives.
  • Juice from concentrate which lowers the health effects.
  • Most importantly – combination with other juices, such as the drink targeting young children described below.

What about the new brand, Cocos Pure? How does it stack up to the other brands? Here are the benefits to choosing Cocos Pure:

  • Single-origin Thai coconut water
  • 100% All natural with no sugar added and no artificial ingredients, colors or preservatives
  • Gluten-free, fat-free, and cholesterol-free
  • High in potassium; one can contains twice the potassium as one banana
  • A source of calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, proteins, and vitamins B and C

Please ask for Cocos Pure at your local supermarket or find it easily on Amazon.com. Just type in “Cocos Pure” in the search bar. Cocos Pure processes its coconut water using a pasteurization process designed to preserve the vitamin and mineral content.

  • Moisturizer
  • Reduces Signs of Aging
  • Reduces Pigmentation

It’s important to note that coconut water tends to lower blood pressure. While this could be a good thing, pregnant women and people on certain medications for blood pressure should consult their doctors before taking coconut water internally. How to Choose Organic Fruits and Vegetables

Eating whole, unprocessed foods is imperative to good health. We know eating organic is good for you because it minimizes your exposure to toxic pesticides but sometimes you’re not able to do all of your grocery shopping in the organic aisle. Here’s a guide to show you how to choose organic fruits and vegetables. We’ve listed the items that are most important to purchase organic and which items will do less harm to you if they don’t happen to have that special sticker.

Meet the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen Fruits and Vegetables

The Dirty Dozen (in order of contamination)

  • Apples
  • Celery
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Peaches
  • Strawberries
  • Nectarines
  • Grapes
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Cucumbers
  • Blueberries
  • Potatoes

The Clean 15 (in order of least contamination)

  • Onions
  • Sweet Corn
  • Pineapples
  • Avocado
  • Cabbage
  • Sweet peas
  • Asparagus
  • Mangoes
  • Eggplant
  • Kiwi
  • Cantaloupe
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Grapefruit
  • Watermelon
  • Mushrooms

Some of the fruit and vegetables are sprayed right before they are sent to market, making them potentially more harmful. This article does not mention the problems with GMO and the very toxic sprays used in these plants. That is the topic for another article. Sweet corn unfortunately has slipped in many cases from the clean list to the sprayed list.

Why Choose Cocos Pure? The Battle of the Brands

Coconut water has exploded in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Often referred to as ‘nature’s sports drink’, coconut water is a wonderful source of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. The natural electrolytes in Cocos Pure help to replenish and hydrate athletes and non-athletes alike.

With rapidly growing acclaim for the highly regarded drink, vast varieties of coconut water are popping up on store shelves and saturating the market, leading to numerous questions about the nutritional components of the product inside.

We’re highlighting five practices that ensure the consistent and fresh taste and high quality that you expect from Cocos Pure:

1. Our water comes from young single-origin coconuts

Cocos Pure is made only from ethically sourced, young green coconuts, which are intact with all of its nutrient rich water. As coconuts begin to mature, the nutrients in the water begin to seep into the flesh of the coconut, turning it into a watered down version of the once nutrient abundant product. Since we harvest our coconuts before this begins to happen, when you drink a can of Cocos Pure, you are essentially drinking straight out of the belly of a young coconut and get all the benefits of its nutrients.

2. We use only fresh coconut juice, never from concentrate

Cocos Pure is a 100% pure and natural beverage made from single origin coconuts. We bottle our coconut water right in Thailand where the coconuts are grown, providing a fresh, consistent product with a natural taste. Cocos Pure is never from concentrate.

3. No added sweeteners

Cocos Pure Original contains only one ingredient: 100% pure coconut water. Because our product is made from a rare variety of Thailand coconuts, the fresh fruit juice is naturally sweet and requires no additives. Cocos Pure contains no added sugar and is gluten and cholesterol free.

4. Removal of harmful, illness-causing bacteria

We pasteurize our coconut water in a way that preserves the physical traits found in fresh coconuts while adhering to the requirements of the Food and Drug Association (FDA) and keeping disease-causing pathogens at bay. We also pasteurize because it reduces the bacteria and spoilage organisms that cause the product to sour while being able to maintain all of the integrity of the product outside of harmful bacteria.

In a lab study to evaluate the effects of pasteurization conducted by the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, it was found that processed coconut water retained similar qualities to fresh coconuts including acidity, pH and soluble solids. This mean Cocos Pure retains all of its flavour, colour and texture, along with minerals, enzymes, Vitamin C, and dietary fiber.

Studies have shown that with pasteurization, there is a clear reduction of salmonella, mold, E. Coli O157:H7, and other harmful bacteria that can grow from the juice and cause life-threatening illness. Due to previous outbreaks, E. Coli has the ability to sustain at low pH levels and refrigerated temperatures.

Coconut water is extremely temperamental and ephemeral. Once the coconut is cut open and exposed to oxygen, yeast and bacteria grow and nutrients dissipate, leaving a limited time frame for you to drink the liquid and still get the benefits. Pasteurization removes all of the harmful bacteria that begin to grow as soon as the coconut water is exposed to air, leaving behind a product with nutrients that replenish the body, boost energy levels, speed up metabolism and contains less sugar and sodium than more sport energy drinks.

5. No chemical preservatives or chemical additives

Since Cocos Pure is produced with fresh coconuts, it contains no life-harming preservatives, only 100% pure coconut water. We never use chemicals like formaldehyde or sodium meta-bisulphite, to preserve our coconuts prior to production.
