Can Pets Drink Coconut Water for Bad Breath?

You might have heard of natural remedies for human bad breath such as fennel, baking soda or cinnamon. While you could brush your dog’s teeth with baking soda, how many people would actually do that? When I came across this remedy using coconut water for bad breath, I thought I’d give it a try. It turns out there are a lot of other reasons to feed your pet coconut water.

Firstly, coconut water is not toxic to pets. In fact, the vitamins and minerals are great for your 4-footed companion (and a few birds too). According to ultimatehomelife.com  there are several vital reasons to use coconut water. Coconut water is the fluid inside of immature coconuts that’s rich in nutrients and vitamins. You can easily find a coconut with water by shaking it. You should hear the water “sloshing” around inside.  Here are some reasons to use coconut water for bad breath from Ultimate Home Life:

  1. Fight viruses.
  2. Keep harmful bacteria away.
  3. Protect from infections.
  4. Boost immune systems.
  5. Form red blood cells in the body.
  6. Improve dog coat and skin conditions.
  7. Keep dog coat smooth and glossy.
  8. Fight off annoying issues such as flea allergies and itchy skin.
  9. Improve dog odor.
  10. Reduce bad dog breath.
  11. Regulate and balance insulin and thyroid levels.
  12. Aid in healing arthritis or ligament problems.
  13. Aid in healing cuts, wounds, bites from insects and stings when applied to them.

Thus you can see that applying coconut water topically also is beneficial. It is possible to use coconut in other forms too  such as fresh coconut, dried, coconut oil, coconut milk and powdered coconut. How much should you give your pet? As with any new food it’s a good idea to introduce it slowly to make sure there are no side effects such as diarrhea. It also depends on the size of the pet, of course. Also, please avoid giving your pet the coconut shells as they may cause obstruction of the digestive system if the pet eats them.

Coconut water could be used as a treat. It’s great for a hot, summer day – a refreshing treat. Want to try some of CocosPure coconut water? Just click the button below and it will be at your place within a week.

  • Helps Your Heart – coconut water increases the high-density lipoprotein (HDL or the “good” cholesterol) and lowers the LDL or low-density lipoprotein.
  • Promotes Weight Loss – “Coconut water is an ideal drink for weight loss. It is low in calories and easy on the stomach. In fact, this light and refreshing drink contains various bioactive enzymes that aid digestion and boost fat metabolism.”
  • Treats Migraine Headaches – hydration and magnesium help these headaches
  • Helps Hangovers – the electrolytes help counteract the effects of the alcohol and provide oxidation to your system. Here’s a hangover smoothie: 2 cups coconut water, 1 mango, 2 pieces of mint, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 cup ice.

New Coconut Water Study Shows Great Potassium Level

A new study shows that the potassium level in coconut water is five times that available in Gatoraide or Poweraide. The study reported by James de Medeiros in Men’s Fitness Online  states that researchers giving a presentation at the National Meeting and Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS) showed evidence that coconut water contains more potassium but less sodium (salt) than other sports drinks.

Unfortunately the research company was not mentioned and the link did not connect to the actual study. The researchers concluded that coconut water would be the drink of choice for moderate sports workouts and would definitely help with leg cramps. However, for heavy workout involving a lot of sweating, another drink might be better containing more sodium. Mr. de Medeiros concludes, “While coconut water is an effective sports drink that suits the needs of many, it may not be the ultimate sports drink to feed all your needs.”

More research needs to be done about the various sports drinks, such as the long-term effects of sugar and other additives to sports drinks. Want to order some great coconut water to try for yourself? Just click this link and order some online today: https://cocospure.com/

Huge Vancouver Marathon Returned on May 7th

Olympian Evan Dunfee at the BMO Vancouver Marathon 2017

The BMO Vancouver Marathon returned to Vancouver on May 7, 2017. Sponsored by the Vancouver International Marathon Society, there are usually over 100,000 people who take part in the various races – marathon, half marathon, 4 person relay, 8 km race, kid’s run and 2.5 km walk. All participants purchased tickets to enter to secure spots on the start line.

According to the event Facebook post, “Excitement is especially high as we’re coming off a sold-out 2016 year that saw the most registrants ever in the event’s rich 45 year history, with runners from more than 50 countries!”  It is always a major race and a special event in Vancouver not to be missed. The registration included a metal, a t-shirt, and a complementary beer. Over 16,000 runners took part, about the same number as 2016. Daniel Kipkoech was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 2:19:09 and Gladys Tarus was the first female runner with a time of 2:39:38. Olympian Evan Dunfee walked the course with an unofficial time of 3:10:35.

Coconut Water and Diabetes

Can diabetics drink coconut water? The answer is a resounding “yes” if your diabetes is well managed. Coconut water is the thin liquid inside an immature coconut. It provides several benefits to everyone, including diabetics. Here they are, courtesy of New Health Advisor:

  1. Improves Blood Circulation – Coconut water dilates blood vessels and thus improves the circulation of diabetics who tend to have problems with numb feet or vision problems.
  2. Lowers Body Weight – Coconut water is chock full of vitamins, minerals and good fats without cholesterol. It makes you feel full without the calories as well.
  3. Boost to Metabolism – It increases the metabolism rate, meaning the person can burn sugar faster leaving more energy.
  4. Provides Less Carbs – Diabetics need to keep track of carbs which can cause the glucose level to spike. Coconut water contains less carbs than many other drinks or foods. The glycemic index is only 3.
  5. Provides insulin Sensitivity – Coconut water contains magnesium which helps keep blood sugar in control.

With so many advantages for people with health issues, it’s obvious it would benefit others as well. There are some reservations for diabetics, however. Coconut water does contain fructose, so any diabetic should not drink coconut water daily. It’s a good idea to talk to the family doctor before drinking it. And as mentioned previously, only those with well managed diabetes should indulge in this great tasting drink.

Cocos Pure has some of the purest and best tasting coconut water. If you would like to try it, just click on this link below.

Coconut Water Fruit Smoothies

Spring is coming. Time to get yourself in shape and nurture your body. Nothing does this as quickly as delicious coconut water fruit smoothies. Here’s a great recipe from Bobby Flay at the Food Network using bananas, mangoes and strawberries – yumm! Not only are smoothies good for you but it’s a great way to ingest a larger amount of greens or fruit than you would normally eat. It just goes down so easily. Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

4 cans of CocosPure coconut water, plain or flavoured

2 bananas

2 mangoes

1 cup strawberries, fresh or frozen

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

2 tablespoons honey

DIRECTIONS:

Freeze the coconut water in ice cube trays. Take out and combine with the rest of the ingredients in a blender till smooth. Serve immediately. There may be no need to freeze the coconut water if you are using frozen strawberries or frozen mangoes. I like to top mine with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

We called upon our Irish friends for a little ‘Luck’ and they did not disappoint as the rain held, providing ideal conditions for the 12th annual BMO St. Patrick’s Day 5k. Lads and Lassies all dressed in green lined up on Pipeline Road to chase the Maserati ‘Levante’ pace car on a scenic 5k course (mapped by RunGo) in Stanley Park on Saturday, March 18, 2017. There was excitement at the front of the pack with a sprint finish by 2016 Olympian, Luc Bruchet and Canadian cross-country champion, Ross Proudfoot with Proudfoot nipping Bruchet at the finish line for the win. Dayna Pidhoresky took the win in the women’s field. Click here to read the full report in Canadian Running Magazine.

Come for the Race…Stay for the Party…

It wasn’t all about fast times as the bulk of the race consisted of hundreds of runners and walkers dressed in green with some great costumes. All there to not only take part in Vancouver’s Best Running Party but also raising funds for Diabetes Canada. For many, this was also their first 5k race!

Congratulations and cheers to everyone who took part in the 12th annual BMO St. Patrick’s Day 5k and a big THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who helped make it all happen. See you next year on March 17, 2018!
