Coconut Water Fruit Smoothies

Spring is coming. Time to get yourself in shape and nurture your body. Nothing does this as quickly as delicious coconut water fruit smoothies. Here’s a great recipe from Bobby Flay at the Food Network using bananas, mangoes and strawberries – yumm! Not only are smoothies good for you but it’s a great way to ingest a larger amount of greens or fruit than you would normally eat. It just goes down so easily. Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

4 cans of CocosPure coconut water, plain or flavoured

2 bananas

2 mangoes

1 cup strawberries, fresh or frozen

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

2 tablespoons honey

DIRECTIONS:

Freeze the coconut water in ice cube trays. Take out and combine with the rest of the ingredients in a blender till smooth. Serve immediately. There may be no need to freeze the coconut water if you are using frozen strawberries or frozen mangoes. I like to top mine with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

St Patrick’s Day Race 2017

We called upon our Irish friends for a little ‘Luck’ and they did not disappoint as the rain held, providing ideal conditions for the 12th annual BMO St. Patrick’s Day 5k. Lads and Lassies all dressed in green lined up on Pipeline Road to chase the Maserati ‘Levante’ pace car on a scenic 5k course (mapped by RunGo) in Stanley Park on Saturday, March 18, 2017. There was excitement at the front of the pack with a sprint finish by 2016 Olympian, Luc Bruchet and Canadian cross-country champion, Ross Proudfoot with Proudfoot nipping Bruchet at the finish line for the win. Dayna Pidhoresky took the win in the women’s field. Click here to read the full report in Canadian Running Magazine.

Come for the Race…Stay for the Party…

It wasn’t all about fast times as the bulk of the race consisted of hundreds of runners and walkers dressed in green with some great costumes. All there to not only take part in Vancouver’s Best Running Party but also raising funds for Diabetes Canada. For many, this was also their first 5k race!

Congratulations and cheers to everyone who took part in the 12th annual BMO St. Patrick’s Day 5k and a big THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who helped make it all happen. See you next year on March 17, 2018!

CocosPure was there too with some healthy refreshment for the racers. The flavoured versions were very popular, but the “pure” was still the winner. Want to try some right now? Just click the button below.

Feedback from the Vancouver Health and Wellness Show

CocosPure coconut water was a great hit at the show. People who tried it were very impressed and said they preferred it over other brands. Here’s what one the the staff, Jason Grannary, wrote to us recently.

By far the best received brand we had at The Wellness Show. Everyone on the team stepped in and helped sample CocosPure because it was non stop action for the entire show! Andrew had to pick up 3 more cases of Pure just to keep up!
Nesters – It was a good plan to be across from the Nesters booth because the store managers were working the weekend in shifts and all of them got the Jay pitch on why we are the only choice for Coconut Water👍. They all saw with their own eyes how many people preferred CocosPure once tasted. The dispenser unit will be booked solid this summer as the managers Sean from Squamish, Bruce from Whistler, Adam form Main St and Eric SFU Manager all expressed interest in having us at more of their upcoming events!
It was almost 100% of the people who tried it said “it was the best one they have ever tried” or “you have a new customer” or “ You convinced me to switch brands” Even people who do not like coconut water tried and were very surprised they liked it enough to take a flyer and go buy it! All very positive around the brand!
Plus Vita Coco was there with their added sugar coconut water and people were trying both and coming over to tell us ours was better!
Now’s the time for you to try some. Just click the button below and it’s yours!

Here’s a great recipe using my favourite ingredient, chocolate. This recipe was modified from Lizzie Fuhr’s recipe in PopSugar Fitness. Thanks, Lizzie. We will return the favour some day. Here’s how to make these delicious coconut water chocolate smoothies.

1 can CocosPure coconut water

1 frozen banana

3 tablespoons raw hemp seeds

1 Tablespoon cocoa powder

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth. You can top the smoothie with a piece of banana and a few seeds if you want. Makes one smoothie. Repeat the process for more smoothies. About 355 calories. This smoothie is high in B vitamins and Omega-3.

Medical Cannabis: A Popular and Effective Substance for Healing

downloadIn other articles posted here on CocosPure.com I have explained the difference between the two main properties of hemp plant – THC and CBD. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is the psychoactive ingredient that produces the euphoria and relaxation. CBD or Cannabidiol, on the other hand is now being used for healing. Recently there have been a number of companies that have been able to extract the CBD without the THC. This is good news to those suffering from various ailments who don’t really want to “get stoned”, especially young children. While there needs to be a lot more research done on such things as the dosing levels, there is still  adequate anecdotal evidence that CBD provides relief for pain, reducing nausea and anxiety, controlling epilepsy, muscle relaxation, anti-psychotic, reducing inflammation and insomnia. Medical Cannabis is about to go mainstream.

According to Marc Davis writing for the Huffington Post, a Canadian licensed producer of CBD, Alberta-based Aurora Cannabis (CSE: ACB) has reportedly produced a strain of medical marijuana that is 26% CBD and 1% THC. Before that the closest competition was the US strain called Charlotte’s Web that is 20% CBD and 0.5% THC.

The advent of non-psychoactive, CBD-rich/low-THC marijuana is a big step towards many peoples’ acceptance of cannabis as a legitimate form of medicine. This is according to Dr. Jonathan Page, an adjunct professor of botany at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. …..

Page says CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties may be particularly appealing to chronic pain sufferers who want to remain clear-headed while medicated. And CBD-rich oil is gaining greater acceptance among parents and doctors as an appropriate treatment for paediatric seizure disorders, including epilepsy, he adds. Read more here.

CocosPure also has produced Hemp CBD Supplement in capsules for ease of consumption and  controlled dosage. It is mixed with pure virgin coconut oil which is cold pressed from fresh coconuts. Each capsule contains 15 mg of CBD oil and 375 mg hemp oil. The oil is:

  • Organically Grown in the Sun
  • Gluten Free
  • Wheat Free
  • Non-GMO

Since this product is for medical uses, there is less than 0.03% THC in all capsules. The gel caps contain only hemp CBD oil and virgin organic coconut oil. Suspending hemp CBD oil in coconut oil helps with the bio-availability. There are no additives and each batch is certified and checked for purity. Pure Coconut Water: What to Look for and What to Avoid

If you have read any of the posts on this site you will know the many benefits of pure coconut water such as:

  • helps prevent heart attacks
  • fights free radicals to avoid cancer
  • has anti-aging effects
  • contains electrolytes that help lower high blood pressure
  • is full of vitamins and minerals such as vitamins B and C
  • contains trans-zeatin which is used to treat dementia and Alzheimer’s disease

The taste is mild and it is often used as a mixer with other health-producing drinks such as pineapple juice and green tea. However, not all coconut water that is for sale is equal in health benefits. Of course pure coconut water comes directly from a young coconut. Since not everyone lives near a coconut grove, let’s explore which of the commercial drinks are the best for your health.

First, here are some of the things to avoid when shopping for your coconut water.

  • coconut water made from concentrate, not fresh – This is a good way to cut down the vitamin and mineral benefits
  • taking coconut water from mature coconuts or from young ones that were harvested weeks before the water is extracted – When coconuts become more mature, the water looses some of the nutrients. Likewise when the coconuts are harvested young but left on the ground sometimes for weeks some of the health benefits are lost.
  • adding “natural” flavors or sugar – Chances are that if you see flavors or sweeteners added the water comes from a mature coconut, and these are added to cover up the now acidic and less nutritious flavor of the water.
  • pasteurizing it with heat – Here is another way to decrease the mineral and vitamin content. According to foodbabe.com, a website which explores what is really in your food,

” It has been shown that heat also destroys some of the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients and also denatures enzymes – stripping its benefits and much of its flavor. If coconut water is from concentrate, this would be the second time it’s heated. Obviously, your best bet is to seek out and find unpasteurized raw coconut water.”

  • The worst of all – dipping coconuts in formaldehyde or sodium metabisulphite – This sounds like a horror show, but it is done before sending whole coconuts to other countries to keep them from spoiling. Certainly some of these strong poisons could seep into the coconut meat and water. If you live far from a coconut producing country, please be careful about buying fresh coconuts, especially ones with the green husks still on.

The bottom line is to read the labels on the coconut water containers. You want water that is HPP (high pressure processing) or at least minimally heated during the processing, without added ingredients, collected from young coconuts and the water extracted immediately, and of course taken from organic coconuts for pure coconut water.CocosPure Coconut Water

CocosPure fits all of these criteria and will give you a nutritious and tasty selection of coconut water. As we stated several times in these blog posts, CocosPure:

• tastes better.

• is 100% natural, never from concentrate, no sugar, additives or preservatives.

• Single source origin to maintain taste and consistency.

• is only from fresh young coconuts specific to the regions of Thailand and Vietnam.

• is always sourced from fresh young coconuts, never mature coconuts which have a sour taste and are less nutritious.

• is harvested from coconuts and specially handpicked to our strict requirements. All of our coconut water is ethically sourced and processed using a minimal heat process.

Benefits to Coconut Water You Might Not Know

CoCos-Pure_464x467pxYou may know that coconut water from a young coconut with a green husk is full of vitamins and minerals. Besides it tastes great. Not every food or drink that is good for you tastes as good as coconut water. In a previous article I spelled out the benefits of coconut water. However, according to Allison Martin writing for Lifehack , there are other benefits you might not know about, and I suspect you’ll never find them in a medical journal or even a newspaper. Here are some of them.

Benefits to Coconut Water You Might Not Know

  1. Weight Loss Aid – Coconut water is low in calories but it suppresses your appetite with the full nature of the liquid.
  2. Skin Toner – Coconut water is a perfect natural remedy for skin blemishes and other skin problems. Why buy expensive toners and lotions when you can use something natural?
  3. The Ultimate Hangover Remedy – Next time you overdo it and drink more than your belly can handle, consume coconut water to settle your stomach. It will also replace those essential electrolytes that exit the body if you experience bouts of frequent urination and vomiting.”
  4. Digestive Aid – I have often turned to coconut water after eating too much spicy food or food from questionable sources. It’s been a lifesaver not to end up in bed for a day.
  5. Hydration Boost – During vigorous exercise the body loses vitamin-rich fluids and mineral content. Coconut water is a good replacement and contains twice the amount of potassium and certainly one-fifth of the sugar that most sports drink contains.
  6. Reduction of Blood Pressure – Coconut water is rich in 5 electrolytes present in the body which help reduce blood pressure problems. “These include: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium. Because of its unique composition, coconut water can be enjoyed by individuals with varying medical conditions.”
  7. Emergency Infusion for Blood Loss – Because coconut water is compatible to human blood, it can be use in emergency situations to hydrate the body until blood transfusions are available.

Thus obtaining pure coconut water such as the products available through CocosPure, can be a healthy alternative, a remedy for illness and even an emergency blood transfusion.

Create Glowing Skin and Hair with Coconut Water

VegetablesThere are so many benefits from coconut water for your health. It’s chock full of vitamins and minerals plus electrolytes like sodium and potassium. It’s a great diet food as well with only 40 calories per serving with low fat and cholesterol content.

However, the benefits don’t stop there. It’s great for you skin and hair as well. According to Namrata Kothari writing for the online publication, Green Tribe, there are seven benefits for you skin and hair.

Anti-aging – Everyone can benefit by drinking and applying coconut water topically to the skin. “Coconut water contains anti-microbial powerhouse called lauric acid that helps protect against skin infections. It also contains protein called cytokines that is responsible for encouraging cell growth and cell activation.”

Fights acne – Applying coconut water topically helps heal the skin. “Coconut water has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties that reduces the risk of acne causing microbial infection and helps in getting a clear and flawless skin.”

Natural cleanser and toner – Coconut water is the most gentle and natural cleanser by hydrating without oil. It regulates the pH balance which is often a problem when blemishes are present.

Protects against sunburn – Apply coconut water after too much sun, let it soak in for 30 minutes and feel the difference. The anti-oxidant and vitamin C properties combat that burning destruction.

Tames frizzy hair – Oil is a bit heavy to apply to the hair but coconut water is perfect and effective for this purpose.

Reduces hair loss – Just massage in coconut water and let the Vitamin K and iron go to work to strengthen hair. “Similarly Iron carries the oxygen to the roots making them stronger and reducing hair fall. Just massage your hair with coconut water and leave it in for stronger hair.”

Treats dandruff and dry scalp – The water hydrates the scalp and soaks into the scalp to treat these common problems without special chemicals or harsh shampoos.

While coconut water is considered safe for everyone and has no recorded side effects, it is better to check with a health practitioner for anyone who is allergic to tree nuts or has high blood pressure. Want one of the best sources of pure coconut water?

More Coconut Water Benefits for Health and Beauty

CocosPure Coconut WaterHave you noticed the increase in coconut water products – not just in the health food stores but in the big grocery store chains too? Why the growing popularity?

Coconut water is the liquid from a young coconut. Eventually the liquid forms into the coconut meat. If you have ever had a drink served inside a fresh coconut you would find the fresh, slightly sweet juice and perhaps some soft coconut meat (sort of like pudding) that you can spoon out. To find out how much liquid is inside, simply shake the young green coconut and you can hear the amount that is inside.

One time in Mexico we were given fresh coconuts with the tops cut off. The bartender had made a drink with the coconut water, pineapple juice and tequila. I think he called it, “coco loco”. “Loco” in Spanish means “crazy”. If you drink too many you might end up confused or drunk – not sure about crazy.

Anyway, back to the coconut water benefits. Not all coconut water products are the same. I’m sorry to say some are full of sugar, other juices, chemical preservatives and flavor enhancers. It’s a good idea to read the labels before you buy. Better yet, just purchase CocosPure coconut water.

Here are the coconut water benefits of CocosPure:

  1. Only single-origin coconut water is used.
  2. All products are 100% all natural with no sugar, artificial ingredients, colors or preservatives.
  3. They are all gluten-free, cholesterol-free, and fat-free.
  4. One can of CocosPure coconut water contains twice the amount of potassium as a fresh banana.
  5. Coconut water is also a source of calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, proteins and vitamins B & C.
  6. CocosPure has developed a process using low-heat pasteurization designed to preserve the vitamin and mineral content.
  7. No concentrate is ever used – only fresh, natural coconut water with as little processing as possible.
