Coconut water was at one time disregarded as a product for consumption. When harvesting coconuts it was often thrown away. Recently, however, it has been “discovered” as a very nutritious drink to replace sugary soda pop and sports drinks. According the staff at PaleoHacks, coconut water has huge benefits.
Coconut water serves as the perfect moisturizer and hydration substance, as it hosts more than 16 vitamins and minerals, being a natural alternative to sports and energy drinks; it also has up to 5 times less sugar than the commercially available concoctions marketed as “invigorating.” One of the lesser known benefits of it is that it acts as an effective solution in reducing the feelings of a hangover, a quite unpleasant, yet sometimes encountered effect of consuming alcoholic drinks in excess, being able to diminish the bursts of regurgitation and feeling of sickness. Similar to sports drinks, but doing it in a natural way, it replenishes the body’s need for electrolytes and lost minerals.
In addition to its very nutritious nature, it mixes well with other ingredients to make even more nutritious drinks. Here are three you might like to try, especially before and after physical activity to perk up you day.

Sangria is a drink for anytime of the day or night. It’s so refreshing and light one hardly notices the added wine. What could be healthier than to add coconut water to the mix too? Here’s a coconut water drink recipe that comes to us from Davida at The Healthy Maven. I hope you try it. It has an added punch of vodka and wine.
Coconut Water Drinks: Coconut Sangria
- 1 cup pineapple, chopped
- 1 cup mango, chopped
- 1 orange, sliced
- ½ cup vodka
- 1 bottle of white wine
- 1 cup coconut water
- Blend the fruit in a blender or food processor.
- Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher or bowl.
- Let sit for at least 2 hours (longer is better).
- Serve on ice.
Davida says to be careful about drinking too much of this drink that tastes like soda pop. Hangovers are not fun! However, there’s no better cure for hangovers than straight coconut water.
